GOOD DAY FOR EAGLES DAVIES’S!!

Eagles two Davies’s George and Joe ,who are not related , enjoyed a great afternoon as Eagles returned to winning ways. Forward George Davies helped himself to his first ever hat trick whilst Goalkeeper Joe produced a fantastic penalty save.

After a very slow start the game was bought to life after 25 minutes. Left back Daniel Hunt , who also had a fine game , won the ball and freed Davies 30 yards from goal. He looked up and sent a rocket shot into the far top corner of the net .Eagles made it two when Joachim Cook broke through and as his shot rebounded off the post Davies was on hand to knock the ball home. Nick Campbell then headed against the bar from another Cook cross. Davies third was a fine individual effort after good support play by Wally Chambers and Campbell. Joe Davies then guessed correctly to produce a stunning penalty save before from a corner, Josh Gillard moved up to thump in Eagles fourth. Seb Lloyd then repeated the feat heading home another corner. Swans misery was completed when they were awarded another penalty and this time shot wide!

Eagles under 16’s Paying the Penalty!!

After an enforced 5 weeks inactivity due to fixture changes and the weather, Eagles have endured an unhappy return to action losing two matches in a week.

Firstly they played Cannon Colts in the cup quarter final. On a swamp of a pitch which made passing almost impossible they faced opponents from a division higher and the players gave a splendid account of themselves. George Davies scored following an uncleared corner after 10 minutes and Joachim Cook then had a glorious chance to extend the lead but took too long and the chance was lost. Colts equalized from a most unfortunate own goal before Eagles goalie Joe Davies distinguished himself with two point blank saves, if only the tv cameras were present! Eagles never gave up and Tom Lawrie shot just wide. A dubious penalty 5 minutes from time settled the match in Colts favour but it could not take away the fact that Eagles more than matched their higher grade opponents kick for kick. The same endeavour was left behind this weekend as the team lost their first league match of the season to leaders Burton. Eagles struggled against a physically larger team and their trademark passing game was left in the changing room. A goal down after 10 minutes Eagles conceded another penalty soon after to give themselves a mountain to climb. Andrew Dao pulled one back before the break skillfully dancing past defenders before firing home and a super response to their half time “chat” saw Eagles in control for the first period of the second half, Wally Chambers pouncing on a good Dao pass to fire home the equalizer. It seemed that Eagles would push on but they were rocked when yet another penalty was given away, this time for a hand ball when it seemed the offence was outside the penalty area. Davies made a great save but from the resulting corner the ball found its way into the net after a defensive mix up. Eagles heads dropped and they became frustrated when Chambers was clattered in the area but nothing was given. Eagles pushed players up and Burton took advantage to secure a fourth. Nothing to show for a lot of effort summed things up for this Eagles team this past week.

EAGLES UP FOR THE CUP!!

Eagles under 16’s continued their terrific season as they knocked out opponents from a higher division with possibly this teams greatest ever performance in the 7 years they’ve been together. The first half saw Eagles under almost constant pressure and they gave away an early penalty , which the Moordown forward made a hash of, as he dragged his spot kick wide. This was an important moment as Eagles heads rose from this point. The watertight defence of Tom Lawrie, Dan Hunt ,Seb Lloyd and Josh Gillard played with authority and when Gillard suffered a head injury George Davies took over at the back and played a big part in Eagles being level at half time. Eagles came out for the second half and rocked their first division opponents with two quick fire goals. A great passing move between Nick Campbell, Andy Dao and the impressive Jordan McKinstry released Davies who finished well slotting the ball past the onrushing ‘keeper. A minute later it was two, Alex Derham, a revelation in his new midfield role, fired in from the edge of the area to really sink Moordowns spirits. With McKinstry in control of the midfield and Wally Chambers chasing lost causes Eagles never allowed Moordown a way back and it was good to see another long serving player, Andy Dao, score his first of the season following unselfish play from the tireless Davies. A result all concerned with can be proud of and Eagles find themselves in the cup quarter finals for the first time ever!

Team: J Davies, D Hunt, T Lawrie, Seb Lloyd, J Gillard, J McKinstry, D Main, N Campbell, A Derham, W Chambers,G Davies, A Dao

Final score: New Milton Eagles 3 Moordown 0

HAPPY DAYS AT EAGLES!!

This Eagles team ,after so many years, is at last producing the football we always knew they were capable of. Still unbeaten this year, they were so efficient against very intimidating opponents and some of the teams passing and movement were a joy to watch. The defence of Josh Gillard, Dan Hunt, Seb Lloyd and Tom Lawrie is in great form in front of the always reliable ‘Keeper Joe Davies while the midfield and forward players are all finding the net! Indeed ‘keeper Davies , with a lightweight football and strong wind behind him, was only inches from scoring!! His huge clearance evaded all defenders and bounced over the opponents goalie before just rolling the wrong side of the post!! Wally Chambers continued his good form with Eagles first, following Lawrie’s clever pass. Josh Gillard then towered above all to head home from Alex Derhams corner. All the time Eagles were creating chances and from an intelligent Pete Gibbons pass Joachim Cook shot hard, the keeper pushed the ball on its way and Nick Campbell was on hand to finish the job! Derham them moved forward and enjoyed a storming final 10 minutes setting up several chances one of which was forced home by George Davies. Lots of smiles all round and the boys enjoyed their afternoon.

Our first defeat of the season

Our fixture on Sunday was away to Lymington Sprites & it proved to be our first defeat of the season. They were a big physical team and their defence towered above our strikers making their job very hard.

We defended hard in the first half. Norton broke away but wasn’t able to make it count. Lymington then broke away and had a shot cleared well by Sampson, then their shot was blocked by Norton before finally beating Saunders in goal to land in the bottom left hand corner. First goal to Lymington. The defence continued to work hard with Timbrell assisting well. Norton took a knock to the knee and won a corner for Eagles. Hill is proving to be a great taker of corners but to no avail this time. Dean defended well and made a long clearance to find Timbrell in an attacking position before Timbrell was fouled just before half time. Sampson was substituted for Oakley who continued to support the defence well whilst under attack from Lymington Sprites.

The second half saw Eagles come out in a much more attacking mood with another great shot from Hill being stopped by their goalkeeper. Oakley continued to defend well with great support from Wyatt-Budd before seeing Sampson return to the pitch & pick up his partnership with Dean denying Lymington another chance to score. Saunders looked solid in goal and never looked like conceding another goal. Eagles continued to attack and won many corners but it was not to be on the day!

Man of the Match: Dean

A Real Test For The Eagles

Again the game was away to Ringwood Rangers. The Eagles were up against a technically better team. But the Eagles showed good fighting spirit and never gave up all through the game. Ringwood had scored three goals by half time. The first two goals scored by Ringwood were well taken but the third could have been stopped if the team kept their concentration. Conner in goal had to play the best half so far that everybody had seen, due to the quality attack by Ringwood.

In the second half, the Eagles played better than in the first half, especially in attack. Ben, James and Tom were unlucky not to score, as their shots deserved to go in, but were well saved. Late in the game, Conner was forced to make the best save I had ever seen by an under 7 goalkeeper. It was outstanding. The team should be proud of themselves, even though they lost!

Man of the Match: Conner

Team: James, Ben, George R, Alfie, Tom, Adam and Conner. Subs: Henry, Jamie and George Clark-Wheeler

Final score: Ringwood Rangers 4 New Milton Eagles 0

The Eagles were keen and confident for the first game of the season. The game was played away for the first time. Teamwork was good and Alfie defended superbly well against Hordle, when they attacked. James scored a deserved hat trick on his first game as the team attacked Hordle continuously. The Eagles were two nil up at half time. Hordle made our goal keeper, Conner make some good saves in the second half. As the game wound down, the Eagles caught Hordle on the break, which is when James scored his third goal, to make his hat trick.

Man of the Match: James Baker

Team: Conner, Alfie, Henry, George, Ralph, Ben and James. Subs: Zak, Toby and Josh

Final score: Hordle Spurs 1 New Milton Eagles 3

Fighting Spirit wins Through!

Both teams started well and the Eagles knew that they were up against a strong team this week. A couple of minutes into the game and the Eagles boys strung together a number of excellent passes and a cross from Hill was booted in to the back of the net by Timbrell. The second goal came five minutes later from a superb Hill who was on flying form. He side stepped all of the Milford defenders and put the ball in to be 2-0 up. Milford tried hard to attack the Eagles goal but they couldn’t get past the solid line of defenders – Wyatt Budd, Sampson, Oakley and Dean. Wyatt Budd in particular made some great clearances.

Milford put everything into their defense in the second half and even the formidable threesome of Norton, Hill and Timbrell couldn’t get a goal past them. Hill worked the right wing hard and kept up a dogged attack with a number of corner chances, but to no avail, they couldn’t increase the scoreline any further!

Man of the Match: Hill

Team: Saunders, Oakley, Dean, Wyatt-Budd, Sampson, Norton, Hill, Timbrell

Final score: New Milton Eagles 2 Milford on Sea 0

Eagles super show!

Eagles excellent start to the season continued as they saw off a resilient Mudeford team with an excellent all round team performance. Wally Chambers was a constant thorn in the Swans side as he pounced for two goals, the first a header following man of the match Tom Lawrie’s darting run and cross, the second following good play from George Davies who freed Chambers to bustle his way through to force the ball home. Andrew Dao’s perfect free kick then found Josh Gillard at the far post to spectacularly volley home Eagles third. In between Alex Derham went close on a couple of occasions before Seb Lloyd struck the bar from corner.

In the second half Chambers hit the post before Joachim Cook dribbled through to slot home the fourth before Lawrie produced the shot of the match, a swerving bullet from the edge of the area that left the goalie stranded and completed Lawrie’s storming afternoon. Chambers then forced a fantastic save from the visitors goalie to deny him his hat trick. Great stuff and Eagles remain unbeaten this season.

Eagles lost an evenly contested game due to the arrival of a half time super sub who scored five goals in about 12 minutes before retiring back to the bench. Eagles were one up at half time due to thunderous free kick taken by Coral Oakley after she had been fouled on the edge of the area. Both sides went close to adding to the score line with Molly Clerkin going closest for Eagles with a shot that went just round the post. Eagles girl of the Match, Poppy Campbell-Smith was tireless in midfield and did well when man marking the "super sub" for a while. Isabelle Campbell made several good stops coming off her line in the Eagles goal.

Eagles came closet to reducing the score line deficit in the second half when a long range shot by Mia Graham went narrowly wide of the goal.

The winning continues in style!

Christchurch Youth FC came to our ground with a reputation for being a strong team so we were expecting a tough time. Hill was first on the score sheet early into the game. Timbrell then had a shot on goal that came off their player to take the score to 2-0. Another two before halftime saw Hill get his hatrick. Wyatt-Budd saw a shot on goal just skim the crossbar and had another good shot just miss the target. Timbrell took the score to 5 with a well taken effort before Hill went on to score another two, taking his tally to five and confirming his Man of the Match performance. Timbrell went on to get his well earned hatrick. Along with Hill, Norton pulled the Christchurch defence apart and in the second half Norton’s attacking paid off with two great goals, taking the score to 11 - 0. All the time we were scoring Christchurch were being kept at bay with a solid performance by Sampson, Wyatt Budd and Dean in defence. Oakley came on in the second half and partnered well with Dean. Wood came on as substitute for Oakley in second half before Oakley returned and continued to work well with Sampson and Dean to keep their attackers away from Saunders goal. Saunders was able to have fairly quiet time in goal though was tested a couple of times. A fantastic all round game with a great result.

Man of the Match: Hill

Team: Saunders, Oakley, Dean, Wood, Wyatt-Budd, Sampson, Norton, Hill

Final score: New Milton Eagles 11 Christchurch Youth FC 0

Eagles lost their second game of the season in a closely fought match in Totton. Testwood took the lead mid way through the first half with a shot from just outside the box. Eagles equalised when, girl of the match, Coral Oakley run through a crowd of Testwood defenders to stab the ball home from close range. Mikayla Thacker had a chance to increase the lead after strong tackles by Molly Morgan and Amy Edgson lead to the ball breaking to Mikayla but the goalkeeper got there just in time. Testwood scored the winner when a long range shot just evaded the finger tips of Isabelle Campbell in goal. Eagles pressed for the equaliser winning a series of corners taken by Poppy Campbell-Smith with Molly Clerkin and Mia Graham having a goal bound shots deflected just past the post.

NEVER SAY DIE EAGLES!!

Eagles became the first team to take a point of Burton this season as they staged a magnificent fight back in a thrilling game. Burton took early control and scored from one of several corners after 6 minutes but Eagles stuck to the task, restricted Burton to set pieces and gained reward when Wally Chambers latched onto a back header from a defender to score with a terrific low shot from the edge of the area which flashed into the far corner of the net. In truth it was almost Eagles only chance but they arrived at half time all square.

The second half again saw Burton more purposeful and they scored twice more from breakaway attacks and looked to be heading for victory. Eagles reorganized and pushed Alex Derham and Joachim Cook forward. With Jordan McKinstry, Dale Main and a very impressive Nick Campbell also playing higher up the field Eagles forced Burton onto the backfoot for the first time. Chambers bought a fine save from the ‘keeper before McKinstry thundered a 30 yard effort against the crossbar. Great Link up play between Dan Hunt, George Davies and Campbell saw Chambers again foiled. From a corner Josh Gillard came up and his determined challenge saw the ball fall to Seb Lloyd who fired in his first goal for Eagles. Two minutes later and Chambers beat his man to shoot firmly into the net and the comeback was complete. Another great all round squad performance and Eagles remain unbeaten in the league.

Eagles super show!

Eagles produced a terrific team performance with all squad members contributing to a well deserved first win of the season. Eagles passing game was too much for a strong Rossgarth team and with Wally Chambers and George Davies leading the front line, well supported by a midfield of Nick Campbell, Jordan McKinstry Dale Main and Pete Gibbons it was Eagles who made all the running. Chambers bagged his first of the season when he cut in from the left to fire in from 20 yards after 25 minutes. Just earlier he had blasted over when well placed. At the back Eagles had towers of strength in Daniel Hunt, Seb Lloyd, Tom lawrie and Alex Derham and they had Rossgarth relying on long range efforts which Keeper Joe Davies easily coped with. On the one occasion Rossgarth almost broke through Hunt produced a brave header to avert danger. A second goal after 60 minutes sealed the win. Chanbers broke free on the right and his cross was nodded down by Davies to Gibbons who stabbed home his first ever Eagles goal. Eagles then put up the shutters with Derham dropping to sweeper and comfortably saw out the game. Well done to all!!

Team: J Davies, D Hunt, S Lloyd, A Derham, T Lawrie, D Main, N Campbell, J McKinstry, P Gibbons, W Chambers, G Davies, A Dao, J Cook, J Gillard

Final score: New Milton Eagles 2 Rossgarth 0

Eagles won their first ever League game as they narrowly defeated the Southampton based team. Eagles took the lead after a shot by Poppy Campbell Smith was 'kneed' in by Coral Oakley. Foxes pulled a goal back just before half time. Coral scored two further goals to complete her hat trick and then Molly Clerkin increased the lead beating the keeper from close range. Mia Graham went close with a long range shot after good work by Molly Morgan. Stella Brady and Mikayla Thacker worked hard in mid field but the result was founded on strong defence with Isabelle Campbell making several brave saves to deny Foxes. Girl of the match Amy Edgson and Denbeigh North were excellent in defence as Eagles held on as Foxes scored two late goals to make it a nail biting finale.

Team: Campbell, North, Brady, Campbell-Smith, Clerkin, Edgson, Oakley, Thacker, Morgan, Graham

Final score: New Milton Eagles 4 Oakwood Foxes 3

And the wins go on!

Sunday saw the Eagles take on the Mudeford Swans away. Wyatt-Budd was first on the score sheet with a great first half goal but Swans went on to equalise, beating Saunders in goal, though he was to make a great low corner save before half time. However the second half saw Eagles take control on the pitch and a second goal; a well taken chance came from Hill before seeing Norton cleverly put away a cross from Hill to take the final score to 3–1. It could have been more however without the defence of Dean and Oakley. Wood came on for Oakley in second half ton strengthen the defence before Oakley returned to the field to give a man of the match performance and keep the score sheet unchanged. Another good team performance!

7th September 2008

The first match of the new season had been eagerly anticipated by both teams and the break in the weather from the continuous rain was a welcome relief! Both teams started strongly but the Eagles soon found their footing and dominated the first half with some good passing and ball skills. After several testing shots that the Everton goalie did well to save, Hill finally got past him and put the Eagles in front 1-0 at half time.

In the second half Sampson showed promise with some good ball control and his pass to Hill set up the second goal of the match, which managed to slip through the Everton keepers legs. However, Everton were not to be beaten and set up a great attack in the 2nd half of the match with some powerful shots at the goal. Saunders made a couple of great saves but the Everton striker finally got the better of him and blasted one over his head in to the back of the goal.

Eagles striker Timbrell showed confidence when he took a superb shot at the goal from the half way line. The ball sailed over everyone’s heads, including the keepers and found the back of the net making the score 3-1. Everton were not a side to give up without a fight and with five minutes to go Everton managed to get a corner with a lovely cross which accidentally came off one of our defenders’ feet and into the back of our net.

Final score: New Milton Eagles 3 Everton 2.

Second victory for the Eagles

11th September 2008

The season continued on a winning streak with a 3 – 1 victory over Hordle Spurs. Hill was first on the scoreboard with a good opportunist goal. Timbrell & Hill took a defensive position at the start of the second half after an active first half seeing Timbrell take control of the midfield. Sampson took advantage of a forward position at the start of the second half and got on the score sheet with the goal coming from a cross by Norton, seeing Sampson slot past the goalie. A small gap in an otherwise solid defence of Oakley and Dean allowed Hordle to find the corner of Saunders net. The pace then quickened and the deciding goal came from an accurate pass by Hill finding Norton to finish it off. The pairing of Dean & Oakley backed up with a solid performance by Saunders stopped Hordle getting on the scoresheet again. An all round excellent team performance with confidence growing with each game.

Man of the match: Sampson

Team: Saunders, Oakley, Dean, Timbrell, Sampson, Norton, Hill

Final score: New Milton Eagles 3 Hordle Spurs 1
